Harris off for first English season
MSC pacer looking forward to learning experience

Malteenoes and former Guyana under-19 fast bowler Jeremiah Harris left Guyana yesterday for his first season in England and the 24-year-old is looking forward to a learning experience in the United Kingdom.
The right-arm pacer who bats left-handed said he was delighted to be heading off for his first overseas professional cricket stint adding that he will be back in September and will be available for the Demerara and Guyana trials if selected.
Harris who represented Guyana in the West Indies under-19 series at home in 2001 and again in Jamaica the next year, is yet to play at the senior inter-county level although he represented a representative Guyana team against a United States combination late last year at Bourda and his goal is to do well enough this year to break into the national team.
Harris will turn out for
the Doslsden Cricket club in Manchester and he informed that despite the recent adverse weather he has been training hard and practicing at his club in Thomas Road.
The talented player, who made his first division debut in 1998 as a teenager, was forced into a two-year break from the game in 2000 because of a series back injury and at one time his career seemed in jeopardy.
He slowly returned to fitness and re-started his domestic career bowling off-spin and disclosed that during this time he worked a lot on his batting and now considers himself an all-rounder.
Harris, who thanked his club mates and his wife for the tremendous support and interest shown in his cricket, feels he is as fit as any time in his life and explained that while he is bowling with pace, he is now a lot more matured than before his injury and now concentrates on combining his pace with the mental aspects of his bowling to take wickets on the slow pitches in Guyana.
He explained that he has been told a lot about the English conditions and its assistance to swing bowling and thinks that the responsibility of being a professional in the team will improve his all-round cricket and his life in general.
