A 22-year-old man was yesterday granted bail after appearing in court charged for forging a Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) certificate and uttering it to a police officer.
Lystuel George, of 176 West La Penitence Housing Scheme, yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.
It is alleged that between June 13 and 20, 2006, he forged a CXC certificate bearing his name, to show that he received a grade three in English and a grade two in Mathematics.
It was also alleged that on June 2, last, George uttered the certificate to police constable Joycelyn Bobb to show that he had received the grades. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
George was represented by Attorney-at-law Glen Hanoman who said that the matter arose because his client was seeking employment in the Guyana Police Force.
Police Prosecutor, Sherwin Matthews, did not object to bail. George was granted $85,000 on each charge. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 19.
