Govt. scraps walk-ins for passport from Oct. 1
…applicants must book online, elderly, disabled to benefit from home visits
(Kaieteur News) – Passport applications will be done strictly on appointments only from October 1, 2026 Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Stephen Telford revealed on Thursday.
In a video statement, he said that applications will be accepted strictly through the online system, hence they will no longer be accepting people at any of the passport offices with walk in applications. “…so you will now only be dealt with by an appointment, and that in itself allows you, the applicant, in the application process, to choose which one of the passport offices you want to do your application at a date and a time that is convenient to you here in Georgetown or countrywide at the Government Services Centre. I would just want to alert you in using of the online application platform, it is pp.gpf.gov.gy, and please be careful as it relates to using of the URL that may be fakely placed out there,” he reminded.
Telford urged persons to take advantage of the opportunity to apply using the platform, to make things easier and more convenient for themselves. The department has also expanded passport services across the country through decentralised offices and mobile enrollment units, ensuring citizens in remote and vulnerable communities have greater access to travel documents.
In addition to online passport applications, immigration services have embraced digital travel processing through the introduction of the electronic embarkation and disembarkation form and automated e-gates at ports of entry.
Telford said the e-form allows travellers to complete immigration requirements up to 30 days before travel, while e-gates have reduced processing times for eligible passengers to as little as 15 seconds. The online passport application system represents another step-in government’s broader digital transformation agenda, leveraging technology to improve public service delivery, enhance accessibility, and create a more efficient experience for citizens seeking immigration services. This initiative demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to building a modern, citizen-centered immigration system capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly developing nation.

One still has to present him/her self at the office to process their application.
They must also pay the fee to return by Postal Mail etc. when ready.
Then set appointment to PICK UP the finished product ?
Why can’t the Passport Office mail these when ready, using the Post Office
or other legal courier companies, with a signature, ID, tracking # at the end?
Transportation costs, time is costly, like in cost of living.
