Kaieteur News – The Government on Tuesday explained that the increase in the number of confirmed survivors of the MV Barima tragedy from the previously reported figure to 77 was the result of an overnight verification process that reconciled information received from multiple sources involved in the search and rescue operation.
See government’s full response to queries about how the number of confirmed MV Barima survivors increased from 69 to 77:
The adjustment mainly resulted from information being received from several different sources. As that information came in it was carefully reviewed and verified it to eliminate any duplication and provide a more accurate account of the number of persons rescued.
Yesterday, the reported figure was 69. However, following further verification overnight, we were able to confirm that 77 persons who were on board the vessel had been rescued.
This is a positive development, and we can now safely report that 77 persons have been verified as rescued. Arriving at this figure required the examination of records and information submitted by all those involved in the operation.
