GPL unveils five-year growth plan to business community
…CEO says utility investing in infrastructure, technology and workforce development to meet rising energy demand
(Kaieteur News) – Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) on Tuesday intensified its engagement with the private sector, outlining an ambitious five-year strategic plan aimed at modernising the country’s electricity network and preparing the utility to meet Guyana’s rapidly expanding energy demands.
The engagement, held with members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), was led by GPL Chief Executive Officer and Head of the Executive Management Team, Kesh Nandlall, along with a delegation of the company’s directors.

In a press release GPL said during the meeting, it presented its current operational priorities, ongoing infrastructure projects and long-term vision for transforming the electricity sector.
Delivering the feature address, Nandlall highlighted several key initiatives geared towards improving service reliability, expanding network capacity and modernising the company’s operations.
He said GPL’s five-year strategic plan is centred on boosting operational efficiency, strengthening customer service, supporting national development and positioning the utility to cater for Guyana’s fast-growing electricity demands.

According to Nandlall, the company is pursuing major investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure, technological upgrades and workforce development to build a more reliable and resilient electricity network nationwide.
The session also provided an opportunity for members of the business community to engage directly with GPL’s executive team, raising concerns and sharing perspectives on issues affecting businesses and Guyana’s broader development agenda.
GCCI President Kathy Smith welcomed the initiative and thanked GPL for engaging the Chamber on matters of national importance. She emphasised the importance of sustained dialogue between the private sector and public utilities as Guyana continues its economic expansion.
Senior Vice President Gavin Ramsoondar also commended GPL for providing members with a detailed overview of its projects and future plans.
GPL said the engagement forms part of its ongoing commitment to transparency, stakeholder collaboration and continuous improvement as it works to build an electricity sector capable of supporting Guyana’s evolving energy needs.
