(Kaieteur News) – A miner was arrested on Thursday after he was found with four live 12-gauge shotgun cartridges, during an operation at the Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve, Supuruni River area.
Police in a statement on Friday said that, “Enquiries revealed that during the exercise, ranks stopped and searched a silver aluminum boat occupied by six persons. A search was conducted on the personal belongings of a 33-year-old miner of Paramakatoi Village, Region #8, during which a haversack containing a white plastic bag with four live 12-gauge cartridges was found.”
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Annai Police Station where he remains in custody.
The ammunition was lodged as investigations continue.

My question is, what are miners doing in the Iwokrama Reserve.
That area in protected from mining activities and only residents of the area are allowed to hunt for the pot.
