(Kaieteur News) – The Deeds and Commercial Registries Authority has received six bids for the construction of the Berbice Sub-Registry Building.
The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office disclosed that the six contractors bid between $1.6 billion and $2.7 billion for the project.
Kaieteur News understands that there is no single building that houses the operations of the Deeds and Commercial Registries in New Amsterdam; it is being operated from the High Court building. Back in January 2022, Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall announced the government’s plan to construct a building for the Berbice Sub-registry.
Nandlall during his weekly commentary programme ‘Issues in the News’ back in July 2025 said, “Currently the Deeds and Commercial Registry at [New Amsterdam] occupies very cramped conditions beneath the High Court building which they share with the registry of the court. The conditions have become almost intolerable. I visited recently and there is hardly any space for persons to walk and the documents that are being stored there are large volumes and you don’t have space. So, a headquarters is badly needed in Berbice and we are building a brand-new building at Esplanade Road”.
At that time, the contract sum was estimated to be approximately $ 767 million.
