(Kaieteur News) – The Government of Guyana is in talks with the United States (U.S.) Government to expand U.S. private sector engagement in Guyana and increase commercial ties and investment.
Earlier this week, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hugh Todd and Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud held a series of high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Guyana and the U.S. across key areas including energy, defence, diplomacy, and economic cooperation.

The Guyanese delegation met with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, Acting Assistant Secretary of War for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs Joseph Humire, and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
The U.S. Department of State in a release noted that Deputy Secretary Landau’s meeting with Minister Todd reaffirmed the strong and expanding partnership between the two countries.
“The Deputy Secretary underscored the importance of expanding U.S. private sector engagement in Guyana and increasing commercial ties and investment. Both leaders discussed shared economic priorities, including expanding opportunities for U.S. companies to contribute to Guyana’s development through sustainable investment and commercial partnerships. The Deputy Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it was stated.
Meanwhile, a release from government noted that the discussions with the U.S officials focused on energy security, border security cooperation, irregular migration, illicit trafficking, and regional stability. It was also noted that throughout the engagements, the U.S reaffirmed its strong and unwavering support for Guyana’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
