(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh de Commissioner of Police got a serious problem pon he hand. De Commissioner is a good and effective leader. But sometimes a good captain got fuh come up pon deck and ask some sailors exactly wha ship dem sailing.
Some time back de public get told plain and simple that police can’t just stop vehicles because dem wake up one morning and decide that dem ain’t see enough driver’s licences fuh de day. Dem got fuh have a reason. Dem got fuh have cause.
Yet every day motorists finding one or two ranks standing up in some lonely corner like dem waiting pon a minibus that done pass since last week. De vehicle get stopped. Driver pull over. Window wind down.
“Morning officer.”
“Documents.”
“What offence I commit?”
“Documents.”
By de time de exchange done, de driver does feel like he applying fuh a mortgage and not driving to work. Dem boys seh random stopping becoming a national sport.
And then there is de radar gun business. Now, dem boys ain’t no scientist. But even dem boys know that if yuh hiding around a bend like a hunter waiting fuh bush hog, and pointing a speed gun at an angle, something got fuh be wrong somewhere.
Some officers hiding around corners so well is like if dem playing hide-and-seek. One driver seh he feel de speed gun catch he before he even reach de corner. Another seh de officer detect he speed from yesterday.
Dem boys also remember hearing that anti-crime motorcycle ranks ain’t supposed to be stopping people fuh traffic offences. De idea was simple. Let traffic police do traffic work and anti-crime police do anti-crime work.
But these days some motorists confused. When de motorcycle pull up behind dem, dem don’t know if dem being investigated fuh speeding, robbery, money laundering or cybercrime. Everything become one-stop shopping.
Dem boys seh de Commissioner need fuh grab de steering wheel before de situation run off de road. Rules can’t be for public consumption only. If de police issue policies, then de police got fuh follow dem too.
Talk half. Leff half.
