(Kaieteur News) – A taxi driver died early Saturday morning after he was stabbed during a confrontation at Farmers Field, Plum Park, Sophia.
Dead is Casey Chapman, 36, of Lot 77-78 South Sophia, Georgetown.
Reports are that, after being stabbed, Chapman drove himself to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) with a knife stuck to his chest. He died shortly after getting to the hospital. The incident occurred at around 23:45h.
Kaieteur News understands that the victim was stabbed by his 34-year-old neighbour. Police said that the duo had previous grievances.
Reports are that Chapman, who was in the company of his girlfriend, was driving along the Farmers Field Road when the suspect approached from the opposite direction in a Toyota Axio car.
The woman told police that while in vicinity of a barber shop both cars attempted to pass each other but were stuck side by side due to the narrowness of the road. None of the drivers wanted to make way for the other to pass. This resulted in an argument which escalated to a scuffle.
Chapman’s girlfriend recalled seeing the suspect being armed with a brown handle knife.
Upon seeing the knife, Chapman ran away from the suspect but the suspect pursued and they ended up in a scuffle. During the fight, the suspect plunged the knife into the middle of Chapman’s chest and it broke leaving the blade stuck inside.
Chapman retreated to his car with his girlfriend and drove himself to the GPHC where he died while receiving treatment.
The neighbour has since been arrested.
