(Kaieteur News) – Twenty secondary schools from across Guyana have been shortlisted to compete in this year’s SHOUT4Change national youth environmental speech competition, organisers announced yesterday as the initiative was officially launched in observance of Earth Day 2026.
Among the schools advancing to the national stage are J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School, School of Nations, St. Joseph’s Secondary School and Linden Foundation Secondary School, alongside 16 others selected from across the country to vie for a share of $4 million in prizes.
The fourth edition of the competition, organised by Recover Guyana in partnership with the Ministry of Education and supported by ExxonMobil Guyana, was launched at the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel under the theme, “Our Power, Our Planet.”
Branded SHOUT4Change, the competition – also referred to as SHOUT 4.0 – aims to move beyond awareness by encouraging students to propose practical solutions to environmental challenges facing their communities. Organisers said the programme continues to emphasise accountability, climate action and sustainability at the school level.
This year’s staging has a strong focus on measurable impact, with participants expected not only to deliver speeches but to advance ideas that can be translated into real-world initiatives.
In addition to the $4 million prize pool, students will also compete for special awards, including a 1.5°C Lifestyle Toolkit being offered in collaboration with Policy Forum Guyana.
Organisers said the shortlisted schools represent a wide cross-section of the country, underscoring growing national interest in youth-led environmental action. The competition is expected to culminate later this year with presentations and final judging to determine the top performers.
