(Kaieteur News) – The new Agriculture Road Vendors’ Tarmac at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara has been completed, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Madanlall Ramraj said on Saturday.
The minister visited the location and noted that they are now ready to begin the relocation of vendors operating along the corridor. According to information provided on the Minister’s Facebook page, vendors currently occupying sections of the roadway are being relocated as part of the massive Agriculture Road Expansion Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming the corridor into a modern, multi-lane thoroughfare.
The relocation, Minister Ramraj said is necessary to clear sections of the roadway to allow for the execution of works, ensuring that construction can proceed efficiently while minimising disruption to both commuters and businesses.
“Vendors, including tyre shops, mechanic services, and other small enterprises, will be relocated to the new facility, where they will benefit from a more organised and accessible environment. The facility has been fully prepared to accommodate vendors and mobilization will begin shortly to facilitate their relocation in a structured and orderly manner. The new tarmac is designed to provide a more organised and accessible space, allowing vendors to continue their operations without interruption,” he stated.
The minister added that the Public Works Ministry remains committed to ensuring that all vendors are properly accommodated, with the relocation process being carefully managed to support continuity of livelihoods while advancing this critical development project along the East Coast Demerara corridor.
