(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has launched a new Climate Smart Agriculture course aimed at equipping Guyanese with practical skills to boost food security and build sustainable livelihoods.
The programme, rolled out through the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN), is being delivered in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) under the Ministry of Agriculture.

Human Services Minister Dr Vindhya Persaud, in a ministry video post, spoke about the importance of the initiative in empowering individuals and communities. She noted that the course is designed to help participants adopt adaptive and resilient agricultural systems that can withstand changing climate conditions while improving crop yields.
The programme offers an opportunity for persons to not only support their families but to also venture into agriculture as a business, Persaud said, encouraging members of the public to register and take advantage of the free training.
Open to both men and women aged 15 and older, the course provides hands-on instruction in a range of techniques, including grafting, planting, and crop management. Participants are already engaging in practical exercises such as grafting spice mango onto Julie mango and combining grapefruit buds with lemon plants.
The initiative forms part of a series of training programmes expected to be expanded to regions across Guyana, with the training suitable for individuals interested in backyard gardening as well as those seeking to establish or grow agricultural enterprises.
The ministry is urging interested persons to sign up using the official registration link, noting that the programme will soon be taken to additional regions.
