(Kaieteur News) – A 37-year-old miner was shot in his right leg after he attacked a detective sergeant with a cutlass on Sunday at Chanta Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, police have said.
An investigation has been launched into the incident which occurred around 17:00hrs. “Preliminary investigations revealed that a Detective Sergeant was at the creek with family members when he had a misunderstanding with several males and was allegedly attacked with a cutlass,” police said in a statement.
After further investigation it was revealed that the sergeant discharged a round from a 9mm pistol issued to him by the Force that hit the miner in his right leg. He was picked up by relatives and ranks of the force and rushed to the McKenzie Hospital, where he is presently receiving treatment, and is said to be in a stable condition.
The rank was placed under close arrest in relation to the matter, as investigations are ongoing. Police assured that further details will be provided as appropriate.
