(Kaieteur News) – The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region One is currently inviting bids for the construction of three new primary schools in the communities of Five Star, Big Creek and Eye Lash.
This is according to a recent tender notice issued by the regional administration which states that bids are expected to open on April 29, 2026 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.
According to the tender notice, each school project is estimated to cost $38,011,719. This brings the total amount to $114,035,157 that the region has set aside for the new schools.
Kaieteur News understands that the projects will form part of the Region’s $9.1 billion budgetary allocation at which $4.6 billion was allotted for education delivery.
During the consideration of budget estimates back in February, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand disclosed that these communities earmarked for primary school, never before had schools for its children.
She noted that these were mining areas where people have settled in and now the government is moving to establish these schools so children can pursue their education.
In addition to these three new primary schools, the RDC is seeking bids for the extension of Port Kaituma Primary to include a SEN classroom and the construction of a SEN Centre at Moruca at which $37,429,313 is estimated for each project.
The regional administration plans to spend another $38,011,719 to extend the Canal Bank Primary School.
Also, the region will be constructing three new teacher’s living quarters to compliment the new primary schools and each is estimated to cost $14,419,512.
