Dear Editor,
The United Sates Ambassador recently said that it is a bad idea to negotiate an already signed contract.
Quote: United States Ambassador to Guyana Nicole Theriot has warned that it sends a “terrible signal” and is a “bad idea” for a country to renegotiate a contract that has already been agreed. She made that comment when asked if the U.S government supports a change to the contract Guyana has with American company ExxonMobil.
However, does the Ambassador’s own country, the USA, honour its signed contracts?
I seem to recall that Donald Trump reneged on the NAFTA contract during his first term. NAFTA was the North American Free Trade Area composing the USA, Canada and Mexico, signed by Ronald Reagan, I believe.
Trump had the contract renegotiated to suit his country and renamed the agreement CUSMA (Canada, US, Mexico agreement).
Then, in Trumps’s second term, he imposed tariffs on his neignbours (Canada and Mexico) in contravention of the so-called CUSMA which was his own brainchild during his first term in office.
He continually threatens to take over Canada, and now Greenland. He wants to make Canada his 51st state!
It looks like this is all about stealing resources from other countries.
Does anyone remember the old western (cowboy) movies where bandits wearing masks and riding horses would rob the chuckwaggons?
This highway robbery still goes on except that they now use warplanes instead of cowboys on horses.
Please check the archives, they took out one million barrels of oil per day from Iraq and one container of lithium per day from Afghanistan flying it out of the Bagram Air Force base.
When the lithium ran out, they suddenly “pulled out” from Afghanistan looking for the next prey.
I have a feeling that his next move will be to take over Canada’s water resources, starting with the Great Lakes water.
Let us hold a referendum on renegotiating the lopsided oil “contract”.
Thank you,
Sham Rahman Mohammed
