(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh confusion got more levels than de tide in de Atlantic. One Minister stand up bold like brass and announce how all de outfalls in Georgetown get desilted. But before dem boys could even clap, another fella step in and seh de Cowan Street canal sittin lower than de outfall and even lower than de river!
Now dem boys scratching head like fowl in sand. Because if de canal lower than de outfall, and de outfall lower than de river, then exactly where de water supposed to go? Up to heaven?
Dem boys seh this nah need no big degree in engineering, just common sense and a lil eye test. If de system ain’t flowing natural, then pumping alone is like trying to empty a swimming pool with a straw while rain falling steady-steady. One man seh, “Don’t worry, we got pumps.” Dem boys seh, “Boss, pump is good but pump nah got sense!” Pump gon keep pumping whether de kokers open or shut. And if de kokers ain’t open on time, all dem pump doing is recycling problem like old-time VHS tape.
Dem boys remember 2005 like yesterday. Rain falling, water rising, and one official come out cool as cucumber and seh, “All we can do is keep on pumping!” Dem boys nearly fall in de flood laughing—if dem wasn’t waist-deep in water already.
So now dem boys making a humble suggestion. Leh we do a proper audit of dem kokers. Check who opening dem, when dem opening dem, and whether dem even opening at all. Because a koker that don’t open is like a gatekeeper who fall asleep on duty—everything backing up behind he.
And leh we be honest. If de tide waiting on man to wake up and remember fuh open sluice, then Georgetown got bigger problem than silt. Dem boys seh drainage is not just about machinery; is about timing, planning, and people doing dem wuk. Because when de water start to rise, excuses does float but houses nah. So before de next big rain come, dem boys advising: fix de kokers, check de levels, and leh common sense flow… since apparently de water can’t.
Talk half. Leff half.
