Kaieteur Sports – A brilliant spell of seam bowling from Leon Reddy, backed by a decent knock under tough conditions from Nathan Bishop set up a massive 76-run victory for the home team Guyana, who picked apart opponents Barbados during yesterday’s first battle.
A long overdue battle which was abandoned twice over the last few days, managed to see some play time despite a late start; with the result favoring a ball-dominant Guyana side.
It was a tranquil effort from hosts batting first, posting just 137-8 in their 31 overs, led by wicket-keeper Nathan Bishop who hit 3 fours and a six in his top score of 37.
Makai Dowlin scored 20 to keep the middle-lower order steady given the circumstances of the late start. All-rounder Leon Reddy started off his brilliant game by hitting a six and a four to finish the innings on 13*.
Captain and opener Lomar Seecharran (11) and his partner Asgallary Nabbie (11), each hit one four but no other player really got going for Guyana.
Barbados, who would eventually implode during the chase, were indebted to the pair of Jalen McAllister (3-24) and Liam Sealy (2-34) who tried to contain a dangerous Guyana batting unit.

Seamer Leon Reddy bowled a brilliant spell to help his team secure a much-needed win yesterday at the Police Sports Club Ground.
But the Berbice youth skipper Reddy, would return to show his true class with the ball, swinging the game completely in favor of Guyana.
The fast-bowler snared impressive figures of 4-8 from 6 overs including 3 maidens which rocked the Bajans.
Support came from batsman and part-timer Akash Ramdewar (2-13), spinner Brandon Grimmond (3-19) who was excellent in the crunch stages and Altaf Ali (1-17), who landed lethal blows which helped strangle Barbados for a measly 61 all out in 20.1 overs.
It was a brave effort by all accounts from middle-order batsman and leading scorer for Barbados, Oshea Francis (35); who aided his team’s recovery from a derelict state of 24-7 to help them cross the 50-run mark thanks to his three sixes and a solitary four.
Opener Javion Batson (13) gave his team the ideal start as he cracked a trifecta of fours, racing to 13 of 12 balls but failed to transfer any of his aggression to the other teammates outside of Francis; as no other player reached double figures.
Action continues today with the Bajans in a desperate situation having suffered a tough loss but will need a win come today, while Guyana on the other hand will be keen on maintaining their momentum which could impact the remainder of the tournament. (Clifton Ross)
