(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) has launched the LCDS Solar Express Lane, a streamlined process designed to fast-track the review, approval, and grid integration of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for all eligible customers, including residential, commercial, and industrial users.
In a statement Thursday, GPL said the initiative supports the government’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, which promotes renewable energy adoption, reduces emissions, and strengthens national energy resilience.
Head of executive management, Mr. Kesh Nandlall, explained that the Express Lane is intended to give customers a clear and efficient pathway to invest in solar energy.
“GPL recognises that customers are increasingly ready to invest in solar solutions, and our responsibility is to ensure that the approval and integration process is efficient, transparent, and technically sound. The LCDS Solar Express Lane allows customers to benefit more quickly from their solar investments while safeguarding the reliability of the national grid,” Nandlall said.
Through the initiative, GPL has created a dedicated processing channel supported by focused technical resources to fast-track eligible applications. The approach ensures full compliance with safety, engineering, and grid standards, aiming for timely integration without compromising system stability or operational integrity.
The programme also enables eligible customers to actively participate in the country’s energy transition by generating electricity for their own use and exporting excess energy to the national grid. Customers with approved solar installations may offset their electricity consumption and receive energy credits for surplus power supplied, in line with GPL’s standard terms of supply and applicable agreements.
“The LCDS Solar Express Lane ensures fairness, predictability, and sustainability, balancing individual investment benefits with the technical requirements of the national grid. Our goal is to support solar integration for all customers while maintaining system stability for the country as a whole,” Nandlall added
The Express Lane complements GPL’s broader 2025–2030 strategic plan, which aligns with national energy policy and supports renewable energy expansion, grid modernisation, and long-term sustainability. GPL is encouraging all eligible customers interested in solar installations to engage early and utilise the express lane for timely processing of their applications. Further details will be shared via the company’s official channels.
