Kaieteur Sports – The race for knockout qualification sharpens today as round two of the 12th Annual Massy Distribution Secondary Schools Boys’ Under-18 Football Championship kicks off at the Queen’s College ground, with the Petra Organisation rolling out another packed day of school football in Georgetown.
After a thrilling opening round, several teams have already laid down early markers, and now the pressure rises. Ann’s Grove Secondary headlines the morning fixtures following a crucial 4–2 win over the 2025 champions Dolphin Secondary. They return to action today at 10:30hrs against New Campbellville Secondary, who are already under pressure after falling to Belladrum in their opener. Ann’s Grove will be aiming to build momentum, while New Campbellville face an uphill task to revive their campaign.
On the adjacent pitch, Anna Regina Secondary and East Ruimveldt Secondary square off in a crucial unbeaten clash. Anna Regina carry a slight edge after their 3–2 victory over President’s College, while East Ruimveldt are still searching for their first win following a draw with Patentia. With valuable group points at stake, both sides know a positive result could define their path to the knockout stage.
Midday action sees Zeeburg Secondary looking to extend their winning run against a determined Yarrowkabra Secondary, who are eager to bounce back from defeat. At the same time, Charlestown Secondary meet New Amsterdam Secondary, a side that impressed with a disciplined, counter-attacking display in their win over Good Hope Secondary and now eyeing a second straight victory.
The afternoon fixtures continue with West Demerara Secondary taking on Saints Stanislaus College, while Good Hope Secondary will try to recover from their opening loss when they face St John’s College.
Closing out the day, Santa Rosa Secondary of region one, battle Brickdam Secondary in what promises to be a lively encounter, while West Ruimveldt Secondary and Hope Secondary clash with both teams still firmly in the hunt for knockout qualification.
Spots in the knockout round remains open, the stakes nestle at the end of the tunnel. While only the top four teams will claim prizes, finishing in the top eight secures entry into the Petra’s League Championship, offering a pathway to the Republic Bank U18 League and a chance for two schools to represent Guyana at the KFC International Series.
As round two unfolds and round three looms, the margin for error continues to shrink. Every match, every point, and every goal now carry added weight in what is shaping up to be another fiercely competitive chapter of school football.
