(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh lately some people tek it pon demself to play traffic police. New thing pon de road now is “slow-rolling” — when civilians decide fuh creep in front yuh like molasses and block yuh from passing, as if dem get badge overnight.
Now leh we be clear: Guyana road hard enough already. Traffic heavy and people doing all kind of crazy things pon de road. And now to add to we problems, we gat citizens forming mobile roadblocks. Is wah next? People issuing ticket from car window?
Dem boys seh is time fuh the Guyana Police Force come out clean and straight and tell we: is this thing legal or not?
Because as far as common sense — and law — go, slow-rolling sounding real close to obstruction. Yuh deliberately impeding traffic. Yuh interfering with normal use of de road. And if yuh misjudge timing, yuh could cause accident too. Then is who fault? The “honorary officer” in front?
Dem boys seh if somebody commit offence, write down de number, make a report, and leh the real police handle it. That is dem wuk. Not fuh Tom, Dick and Harrilal to decide dem running interception operation.
Imagine every citizen decide dem going enforce law. One man feel yuh speeding — he slow-roll yuh. Next one feel yuh overtake wrong — he block yuh. Before long, traffic turn into one big confusion, with everybody policing everybody.
And leh we not forget — things could get dangerous fast. People does get vex pon de road. Yuh trap wrong person and suddenly is more than horn blowing. Is escalation. Dem boys seh law got structure fuh a reason. We can’t replace order with slow rolling. Today is slow-rolling, tomorrow is who know what. So Police, step up. Clarify it plain: can civilians box in a vehicle or not? Because silence does breed creativity — and not always de good kind. Till then, dem boys seh: if yuh feel fuh enforce law, join de Force. Otherwise, drive yuh car and mind yuh business.
Talk half. Leff half.
