The addition of the new Mini Under-12 tourney bear good fruits follow the conclusion of the Five Challenge Series at CASH.
Kaieteur Sports – Youth Basketball Guyana reached new heights over two action-packed days as the Five Challenge Series brought together the nation’s most promising young talents for a celebration of skill, sportsmanship, and development.
The Challenge Series delivered two dynamic days of developmental basketball, designed to strengthen and refine the fundamental skills of the game. Throughout the event, student-athletes were assessed on key competencies, including shooting, passing, dribbling, and game application.

Co-director of YBG Rayad Boyce shared photo with U18 champions after President’s College would have received their first place medals, marking the conclusion of the YBG’s two-day Five Challenge Series.
What set this series apart was its commitment to equal opportunity. The Challenge Series created a fun and engaging atmosphere, ensuring that every participant had the opportunity to fully engage in basketball. With no substitutions made, each athlete benefited from equal court time to demonstrate their abilities, a philosophy that aligns perfectly with Youth Basketball Guyana’s developmental mission.
This year also marked the introduction of the Mini Basketball Tournament (U12), a significant milestone that underscores the stepping stones being created for youth development in the sport. Four teams competed with exceptional determination, showcasing their commitment to improving their skills and laying the foundation for basketball’s future in Guyana.
The event concluded with high-level performances across all divisions. St. Roses High (U14) and President’s College (U18) emerged as divisional champions, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and skill throughout the competition.
Individual excellence was also prominently displayed throughout the series. Daniel Cox (St. Roses High) received MVP honours for the U14 category, while Mattaniah Fordyce (President’s College) claimed the U18 MVP award.
The three-point shooting award went to Josiah Archer, who let them flow quite nicely through the air, much to the delight of spectators. Alafin Joseph was adjudged the player with the most skills combined, while Stephan Duke soared to victory in the dunk contest, electrifying the crowd with his athleticism.
At the conclusion of the series, outstanding performers were recognized and rewarded with exciting prizes, further heightening motivation and enthusiasm. The following awards were presented:
Champions received cash prize of $65,000 along with medals, runner-up cashed in on a $32,000 cash prize along with medals. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) received $20,000 and a trophy, while skills challenge winners tapped in on a $10,000 financial incentive as well as a trophy.
“We remain devoted to advancing and strengthening our developmental framework, continually providing the essential foundation and opportunities needed for players to grow and excel across the country,” a YBG representative shared.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to our community partners; Edward B. Beharry Ltd, G-Boat Inc, and the National Sports Commission, for their continued support in making year-round youth development possible.”
The Series has once again proven to be a vital platform for nurturing basketball talent in Guyana, providing young athletes with the opportunity to develop their skills, compete at a high level, and fall even more in love with the game.
