Kaieteur News – A 16-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Monday evening, and the 19-year-old pillion rider remains in critical condition after the motorcycle they were on collided with a minibus along the Barnwell Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
The deceased has been identified as Angel Manchan of Ruby Back Dam, EBE.
Police reported that the accident occurred around 19:20hrs and involved motorcycle CR 487 and minibus BAG 2484, driven by a 58-year-old man from Edinburgh, West Coast Demerara.

The mangled motorcycle
According to reports, the minibus was traveling east along the northern side of the road at a normal speed when the motorcycle, reportedly moving fast west along the southern side, crossed into the opposite lane and struck the right-front portion of the minibus.
Manchan and the pillion rider, from Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, were thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a yard on the southern side of the road. Public-spirited citizens rushed them to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where Manchan was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination. The pillion rider remains in critical condition in the hospital’s emergency unit.
Police noted that neither Manchan nor the pillion rider was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the crash. The minibus driver is in custody assisting with the investigation. A breathalyzer test was conducted and it revealed no trace of alcohol. Both vehicles have been lodged for examination as the investigation continues.
