Porter nabbed with cocaine and ecstasy at Bartica checkpoint
(Kaieteur News) – A 30-year-old porter of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, is now in custody following the discovery of a quantity of suspected cocaine and ecstasy during a stop-and-search operation at the Sherima Police Checkpoint, in Region Seven.
On Sunday, around 10:09hrs, a motor lorry en route to Puruni Landing, was stopped by ranks for inspection. A search of the vehicle uncovered a shopping bag in the passenger-side storage compartment. Inside the bag, officers found a Milo tin and a Nestum tin containing two transparent bags with whitish rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine, along with a quantity of suspected ecstasy pills.
The porter was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected narcotics. In the presence of the suspect, the suspected cocaine was weighed at 56 grams, while the suspected ecstasy amounted to 98.91 grams before being lodged. The suspect remains in custody.
