(Kaieteur News) – The government, through a collaborative public-private partnership involving the Ministry of Housing–Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, and SBM Offshore Guyana, will be spending US$400,000 (more than GY$80 million) to upgrade a multi-purpose community facility at Cummings Park, Sophia.
The CH&PA’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Martin Pertab on Friday conducted a joint visit to the project site with Country Manager of SBM Offshore, Mr. Martin Cheong.
Dr. Pertab said the upgrades will represent a significant transformation of the facility. He explained that the investment will greatly enhance the functionality and usability of the space while creating opportunities for recreation, youth engagement, and social development for residents of Sophia.

The CEO indicated that CH&PA will play a key role in improving both the aesthetics and overall layout of the facility, with discussions ongoing among partners to determine how additional contributions can further advance the ground’s development.
“The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve community facilities across Guyana and represents a broader push to strengthen collaboration between government and private stakeholders,” CHPA said in a statement.
