(Kaieteur News) – The partially decomposed body of an unidentified man was discovered Thursday afternoon in a drain behind the old Brickdam Police Station building in Georgetown.
According to a police source, the grim discovery was reported at approximately 15:40hrs by an anonymous caller who alerted authorities to a foul smell emanating from the southern side of the station’s compound.
Ranks responded to the scene around 15:47hrs. Upon arrival, officers observed the body of a man, believed to be of African descent, lying motionless in a drain to the southern section of the old building.
Police source said the body was partially covered with garbage. The man’s head was facing east and his feet west. He was clad in a blue jersey, long blue pants and a pair of white sneakers on his right foot. Visible signs of decomposition were evident, and maggots were seen on the body. The scene was processed and photographed by detectives from the Crime Scene Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters, Eve Leary. The body was subsequently removed and taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
