Kaieteur News – Six siblings of No.76 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, are now traumatised, following a shocking domestic incident which left their father dead and their mother in a fight for her life at the No.75 Village Hospital, Corentyne.
The tragic incident occurred Sunday evening, at the family’s residence, where 46-year-old Mahindra Patrick Singh, called ‘Poison’, unleashed a brutal attack on his wife of 23 years, 49-year-old Olive Thompson, in an attempt to end her life.

Mahindra “Poison” Singh and his wife, Olive Thompson, pictured together prior to the tragic domestic incident at their No. 76 Village, Corentyne home. Thompson remains hospitalized in critical condition following emergency surgery, while Singh was later found dead.
Thompson was rushed to the aforementioned medical institution where she is listed as critical. Singh, however, was discovered dead the next day. It was suspected that he died due to an alleged intake of a poisonous substance.
On Wednesday, Chandra ‘Stephanie’ Singh, 21, still reeling from the shocking incident, told this publication that she and some of her siblings were at their parents’ home on Sunday just after lunch. The couple, she explained, interacted with them, with no indication that something was amiss.
“We leave home to go by my brother in Rose Hall, and we leave them home. That was around 12:00-12:30 time. We even made plans to go (Number 63) Beach when we come back,” the daughter shared.
They had just arrived at their brother’s location at Rose Hall when they recieved a disturbing phone call from a neighbor detailing the tragedy.
“She (the neighbor) said that daddy just stabbed mommy, and they are taking her to the hospital. We had to leave and come back home.”
Thompson, a part-time worker attached to the Springlands Nursery School, sustained multiple stab wounds, and had to undergo emergency surgery as one of the knife wounds damaged her liver.
Meanwhile, the siblings were also informed that their father was seen leaving the yard on his motorcycle, wearing only a boxer shorts. A neighbor told this publication that the woman was heard shouting “I gon’ dead, I gon’ dead,” while attempting to flee her yard. The neighbor said she was promptly taken to the hospital, while the man, was drenched in blood.
Singh was not seen or heard from for the rest of the evening, even as a search was mounted. On Monday, at about 10:45am, his body was discovered aback ‘Baker Shop Dam’ leading toward the Skeldon sugarcane cultivation. The now dead man was an employee of the Skeldon Sugar Estate.
Their daughter told Kaieteur News that just recently, the couple celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary on February 14- Valentine’s Day.
“The two were loving….everybody will get ups and downs yeah, but (there was) no sign that this would happen, no sign that they had an argument. We left them two good,” she expressed.
