Kaieteur News- Police in Regional Division #4 ‘C’ are investigating an alleged discharge of a loaded firearm and the possession of an unlicensed gun and ammunition following an early morning incident at Buxton, East Coast Demerara on Tuesday.
The shooting reportedly occurred around 04:44hrs on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. In a statement, the Guyana Police Force said ranks on mobile patrol received information that a man had discharged a firearm in the area. Acting swiftly on the report, officers proceeded to a location near a wash bay where they observed a 27-year-old miner of Non Pareil entering a motor vehicle. The suspect was intercepted and searched. Police said a 9mm pistol was found concealed on his person. The firearm was fitted with a magazine containing seven matching rounds of ammunition. When questioned, the man reportedly admitted he was not the holder of a firearm licence. He was immediately arrested and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station. The firearm, ammunition and the motor vehicle have since been seized and lodged as investigations continue.
