Dear Editor,
In Guyana where there is much talk about democracy, the Government should see to it that democracy is not just a word.
Instead of employing tactics to penalise the Stabroek News which has also been at the fore-front of getting democracy to Guyana, and which continues its work to strengthen democracy, the Government should insist and take responsibility for the survival of the Stabroek News and also all other independent media.
Stabroek News has proved itself beyond any doubt that it wants better governance for the Guyanese people and it should get the backing of every Guyanese, be it those in Government, members of oppositions, those with influence, and Guyanese at large.
Guyana keeps bailing out GUYSUCO with billions because it is accepted that GUYSUCO is vital to Guyanese livelihood. Stabroek News is also vital to Guyanese livelihood, but it has never sought Government bailouts. All that Stabroek News needs is honest and equal treatment. Stabroek News deserves this.
Sincerely,
Faiyaz Alli
