(Kaieteur News) – De President seh he ask fuh action fuh clear up de reserves fuh enhance public safety and security. Well leh dem boys clap fuh dat. Because if safety ever decide fuh tek a lil walk down de East Bank Public Road, safety gon faint.
Start just after Providence Police Station. De road bend like it stretching it back, and right in de bend is a nice lil bus inlet. Now dem boys ain’t engineer, but even we know you don’t encourage stopping where de road does twist and turn like a snake. But wait — it get better. Park up in de same inlet is a vehicle selling meat. Fresh, seasoned, and apparently served with a side of traffic hazard.
Motorists pulling in, half ah dem in de driving lane, half ah dem contemplating if is pork or beef dem want. One lane gone. Safety pack up and gone home. Slide down to Amazonia Mall junction. De southern turning lane looking less like a turning lane and more like a hire car lime. Drivers parking up so comfortable, you would think government issue dem with a permit to create a parking lot.
That junction is not a hire car park. And while we dey pun it, pavement is fuh people fuh walk — not fuh vendors fuh set up mini market. Further up by Diamond, is a food caravan on de reserve. Nighttime is pure headlights and hunger. Vehicles pulling over, reducing de highway to one free lane. Everybody buying chicken and chips, and serving up congestion on de side. Now de President seh clear de reserves. Good. Excellent. Wonderful. But dem boys want ask a small question: how dem reserves get full in de first place? Is reserves does just wake up one morning and decide fuh attract meat sales, hire cars and fry chicken?
Because if law enforcement didn’t see it, dem boys wondering if dem driving wid tinted windscreens. When de President ask fuh reserves fuh clear, he must also ask who was watching while dem turn into commercial real estate. Clearing up is good. But preventing de mess in de first place? Now dat is real public safety and security.
Talk half. Leff half.
