Kaieteur Sports – A high-speed pursuit through the streets of Georgetown ended with the seizure of more than eight kilograms of cocaine, following an operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Saturday.
According to press release CANU said officers acting on intelligence intercepted two vehicles near David Street, Kitty. The driver of a white Volkswagen (PAL 4117) fled at high speed, colliding with several CANU vehicles during the chase. While pursuing the suspect along Sheriff Street toward Rupert Craig Highway, officers spotted a brown cardboard box being thrown from the Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen was eventually stopped at the intersection of Sheriff Street and Rupert Craig Highway. The driver, identified as Shaquille Gordon, was the lone occupant. A search of the discarded box, conducted in the presence of the suspects, revealed seven brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine.
A second vehicle, a white Pitbull minibus (BAB 6337) driven by Ravindranauth Persaud, was also intercepted. Both men were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters. Testing confirmed the seizure to be approximately 8.226 kilograms (18.135 pounds) of cocaine.
CANU stated that investigations are ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting narcotics trafficking and protecting communities across Guyana.
