(Kaieteur News) – It is good that Attorney General, Anil Nandlall spoke frankly. I heard him loud and clear. Azruddin Mohamed as Opposition Leader (OL) in Guyana’s parliament would be a blot on this country. A fecal smear across the face of country and people; an amber stream of liquid bodily discharge that pushes the world to wrinkle its nose. His words give a clue on their connection to the pawing in the air, and balking, of the Hon. Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Manzoor Nadir on the same (OL) standstill. I share a few thoughts.
In Mr. Nandlall’s way of thinking, not only opposition members clamoring for WIN’s Mohamed as (OL) would be tarnished by history, but I submit something else. Humbly, naturally. So, also, would those four senior diplomats that represent the ABC&E countries in Guyana. It is inconceivable that they spoke personally, without consulting and clearing with their home countries. Therefore, those countries, all stalwart allies of Guyana, cannot be excluded from then wide entrapping net that the AG cast.
Next, the AG will disagree, but Guyana has earned a reputation as a major transshipment point for drugs to North America and Europe, as some of such were intercepted in European ports. Mr. Nandlall could not have forgotten so quickly, easily. Perhaps, he has reason to think that those massive drug busts in Europe do not besmirch Guyana at all. It would help if he is just as forthcoming on the real, or imagined, damage from those developments on this country’s name.
Also, when senior members of the Guyana Police Force, at least one senior public servant, and a PPP Govt. minister are stopped and questioned on arrival at US ports, Mr. Nandlall may be able to tell his Facebook audience, and army of swooning admirers, how those were innocuous and of no taint on Guyana’s glistening global record.
Further, some facts and circumstances are so well-known that they are now undeniable, and which I’m now pained to lay at Mr. Nandlall’s feet. Who is this fellow, Azruddin Mohamed (and dad), that is causing such upheaval, such great shakiness within the newly discovered conscience and soul of the PPP? He was tighter and higher and more welcomed as an insider within the PPP flock, probably more than most others. His company and money were so good then; but today he smells dangerously, and the AG is incensed that his name could feature in the running for (OL). I tender the mere fact that Mr. Azruddin Mohamed (and padre) was so intimate with PPP lords that some of his alleged taint had to have infected them in some way, for better or worse. To my regret, and with respect, I am unable to give Mr. Anil Nandlall an exemption, since he is part of the PPP Govt’s inner circle, and a man very much in the know.
Even further, Mr. Mohamed has been sanctioned and charged by the US. But Mr. Nandlall of all people must know that those are what they are and nothing more -allegations. Others have been sanctioned (but not charged) by the US, and either they are still in the pay of the State, or deep inside the PPP, where there is the equivalent of a Victim Protection Program in place. To jog his busy memory, I refer him to the senior police officer (Matthews Ridge) and a former senior public servant (Home Affairs). A haul of 4.4 tons of the stuff that causes so much destruction may count as small potatoes to the AG, but likely only for he.
Taken individually or cumulatively, I discern a terrible stain on Guyana’s standing due to the failures of people close to the PPP Govt. It is not well-received when travelling over the decades for ICE agents to look at coldly and watch sniffer dogs in action around baggage carousels following Guyana-originated flights to US ports of entry.
Last, I reserved a special gift for AG Nandlall. He must know how Dr. Cheddi Jagan was hounded out of office, hounded in daily life, and made into wallpaper in Guyana’s National Assembly. He should refamiliarise himself on the nature of Dr. Jagan’s crime. Ideology was his unpardonable illegality. Today, it’s gold smuggling and money laundering. History has a way of furnishing inconvenient reminders and parallels. Mr. Nandlall is commended for his concern. He should take his temperature to determine the source of his anxieties.
