(Kaieteur News) – World Pediatric Project (WPP), a non-profit organisation, has successfully performed eight corrective scoliosis surgeries on children at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to a post from the Office of the President (OP), the World Pediatric Project provides advanced surgical and diagnostic care for children requiring corrective procedures and other specialised medical interventions.

President Irfaan Ali meets with doctors of the World Pediatric Project at the Office of the President on Thursday.
The OP stated that on Thursday President Irfaan Ali met with several doctors from WPP, where he was briefed on the work the organisation has completed in Guyana. The group was led by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Coordinator for the scoliosis mission in Guyana, Dr. Hydar Khan.
“Through collaboration, the team successfully performed 8 corrective scoliosis surgeries in children at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). The highly specialised intervention usually costs more than US$100,000 and requires patients to travel to the United States of America. In 2024 and 2025, visiting teams completed 10 and eight similar interventions, respectively,” the Office reported.
During his discussion, the Head of State expressed gratitude to this year’s team of doctors for their service to Guyana and for the additional support they have provided to the GPHC team and the country’s national healthcare system.
