(Kaieteur News) – Police acting on intelligence Sunday seized a quantity of marijuana during a raid on a hotel in Lethem, Central Rupununi.
The operation was conducted around 11:50hrs, which led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis and the arrest of a 23-year-old miner of Lethem, police said in a press release. During the operation, a search was conducted on the suspect and the hotel room rented by him, during which thirteen (13) transparent zip-lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found concealed in an article of clothing along with one hundred and sixty-four thousand dollars ($164,000) Guyana currency.
The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Lethem Police Station along with the suspected cannabis which was weighed in his presence and amounted to 6.6 grams. The suspected cannabis was lodged and the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
