Dear Editor,
I am writing to bring urgent public attention to a significant water main leakage situated at Uitvlugt Side Line Dam, West Coast Demerara.
This leak was officially reported to the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) on the morning of January 14, 2026. I was given a reference number when the report was made. While I am currently awaiting a technical team to arrive and assess the situation, the volume of water escaping is causing immediate and visible damage to our local infrastructure.
The roadway is now cracking and is on the verge of collapsing entirely into the nearby trench. There is also a report filed at the NDC in Meten-Meer-Zory for this situation but help or indication that they can assist the resident with having this leakage fixed. Clearly if this had happened in a government official’s community, GWI would ensure that it is fixed promptly.
I currently have no running water in the oil rich Guyana due to this leakage.
Regards,
Affected citizen.
