Dear Editor,
In the spirit of the great governance models used throughout history and across cultures, CRG proposes that the government establish a “Hall of Governance” where the Ministers within the cabinet, the President and the First Lady meet weekly to address national priorities and key issues affecting the regions, towns, and villages.
The Hall of Governance must set an example for our nation with an agenda that solidifies the importance of flag raising and the national pledge. It should be used to provide a platform where the heads of each RDC, Town Council and NDC may meet with the cabinet as needed on urgent matters that require the guidance of the cabinet due to the limitations of the RDC.
It will also provide a location where dignitaries such as ambassadors, senior officials and Presidents of other nations may formally address the cabinet and discuss issues of national and international importance. This approach will complement a monthly outreach to our administrative regions, allowing each region to benefit from the physical presence of our leaders in their domain annually, while also providing them with a platform for semiannual debriefings to the cabinet within the Hall of Governance.
Such a Hall should be encompassed by an Official Presidential Press Room where the Department of Public Information can address members of the press on a weekly basis after each cabinet meeting. The grounds should also have private meeting rooms, a waiting room, and a garden where regional pillars are established and further deliberations can occur amongst ministers and regional delegates.
In addition, a “Study of Governance” which houses the works of the great leaders and great minds in governance of mankind throughout history such as Akbar, Ashoka, Confucius, Gandhi, Ginsburg, Lincoln, Locke, Mandela and others, should be erected to allow Ministers and Presidents to delve further into the knowledge of good governance. An adjacent garden that fosters introspection will also help cultivate the strength of character needed for stronger governance.
While some other nations are more focused on tearing things down and planting the seeds of war, our nation’s path must be one of building up our people and our leaders while also planting the seeds of justice and peace. Strength of character, leadership and good governance must be enabled by an environment which encourages intellectual curiosity and growth, and cooperation and collaboration.
An additional section of the Office of the President that is comprised of the Hall of Governance, the Study of Governance, the Garden of Deliberation, and the Garden of Introspection will serve as both symbols and tools of our nation’s commitment to national development rooted in good governance.
It is CRG’s hope that this administration and future ones will embrace this proposed addition to the Executive Leadership Centre of our Nation so a culture of civil discourse, integrity, honesty, cooperation, collaboration, intellectual rigor and transparency may become stronger and permeate our national governance system.
Best regards,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
