(Kaieteur News) – Police are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis following an intelligence-led operation in the Covent Garden Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, on Saturday.
According to a police release, ranks on patrol were informed of illegal activities in the area and proceeded to a street in the Covent Garden Squatting Area, where they observed a black motorcar parked on the roadway.
A 47-year-old welder of Prospect, EBD, was questioned and confirmed that he was the owner of the car.
A search was requested, but nothing illegal was found on his person, however, a further search of the vehicle revealed a bulky plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
He was then arrested, cautioned, and escorted to the . The narcotics were weighed in the suspect’s presence, totalling 110.15 grams.
The cannabis was marked, sealed, and lodged; the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
