(Kaieteur News) – A rape suspect who was in police custody at Matthew’s Ridge North West District escaped, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) announced on Saturday.
In a statement, the police identified the escapee as Randy James Smith.
“Randy was in custody for the offence of rape of a child under the age of 16. The investigation into the sexual offence has been completed, and the suspect was expected to be formally charged,” the statement said.
All necessary measures have been put in place to locate and re-capture Smith. The GPF urges members of the public to share any information they have that can lead to the swift re-capturing of the escaped prisoner.
