GuySuCo says unrest at Uitvlugt resolved
(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) said that industrial action at the Uitvlugt Estate has been resolved and normal operations have resumed.
Following engagements between management and workers, discussions were held on the matters raised, mutual understanding was reached, and employees have since returned to work, GuySuCo said in a press release.
“GuySuCo welcomes the constructive approach taken by all parties and reaffirms the importance of dialogue in maintaining stable industrial relations,” the release added. According to GuySuCo, with regard to the payment of retroactive wages for debunching for the year 2025, the Corporation acknowledges the concerns expressed by workers. “These payments were not included in December 2025 wages due to the unavailability of funds at that time. This issue was addressed during discussions with workers, and an agreement was reached on the way forward.”
In relation to the movement of managerial personnel, GuySuCo has clarified that the transfer of managers and technical staff across estates is a standard and long-established practice within the sugar industry. “Such movements are undertaken on a needs basis to ensure that critical skills, experience, and competencies are deployed where they are most required to support operational efficiency and productivity.”
