(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh dem nearly drop dem pepperpot spoon when dem hear Donald Trump talking like if Latin America is one big condominium and he is de landlord. According to Trump, Venezuela is something he could just administer, like how you administer cough syrup to a stubborn child. Dem boys seh is either Trump joking, or he really believe de world still living in 1890.

Trump talk as if Latin America is some lost territory waiting on a new boss. He behave like if Bolívar and San Martín was two fellas who only pass through history to make room for Trump Tower Caracas. Dem boys seh is clear de man never read a line about Latin America, not even de comic-book version.

Latin America is one place where de word “imperialism” does cause spontaneous combustion. Dem boys seh people there allergic to foreign control. Dem fight wars, stage revolutions, overthrow dictators, and write whole libraries about anti-colonialism. From Mexico to Argentina, dem countries pride demself on independence. Trump talking about “administering” Venezuela is like telling a jaguar you going to manage he diet.

Dem boys seh even de people who can’t agree on nothing else in Latin America agree on one thing: nobody coming from outside to run dem country. Not Spain. Not America. Not Trump with red tie and big ideas. Anti-imperialism is not a slogan down there; is a tradition, like Sunday lunch or arguing about football.

Trump seems to think de Venezuelans would line up, salute, and say, “Thank you, Donald, for saving us.” Dem boys seh if he try that, he would get lesson one in Latin American politics: resistance. And lesson two: revolt. Latin Americans don’t wukk so. De idea of being colonized by Trump would unite left, right, centre, and people who don’t vote at all.

Dem boys seh Trump might understand real estate, ratings, and reality TV, but Latin America is not a board game. You can’t just pick up Venezuela and move it into your portfolio. If Trump really think he could “administer” Venezuela, then de only thing he administering is proof that he don’t understand Latin America at all.
