(Kaieteur News) – A 32-year-old woman died on Sunday night on Greenfield, Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara when her vehicle slammed into a concrete pole.
Dead is Mathana Cambridge of Ann’s Grove, ECD. Police said that the accident occurred on about 21:00hrs involving motor car PAE 6337 driven by Cambridge who later succumbed to her injuries. A 27-year-old female teacher, also from Ann’s Grove was injured.
Preliminary enquiries disclosed that the motor car was proceeding west along the southern lane when it is alleged that the driver swerved south to avoid a herd of cows on the roadway. The vehicle reportedly lost control, collided with a concrete light pole on the southern parapet and ended up in a nearby trench. Both the driver and the occupant were removed from the vehicle by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty and the occupant sustained minor injuries and remains under observation.
