(Kaieteur News) – The four teams to contest the finals in the ongoing Candy Boss and Di Antics 8-A-Side Knockout Football competition at the Scott Church Ground, New Amsterdam, has been decided.
The most entertaining encounter, which was the last of the triple header, saw Trafalgar holding their nerves to squeeze past Cougars Football Club to win 2-1 on penalty kicks. This was after their enthralling encounter ended 2-2 after regulation time.
Trafalgar has goalkeeper Jeremy Thornhill to thank for much of their success as he produced three good saves during the penalty shootout to help his team to the 2-1 win.
Cougars had goals off the boots of William Summersell and Nuquan Samuels. Finding the back of the net for Trafalgar were Shaquile Gilgeous and Enriquez Lewis.
The first game of the evening was an evenly contested and closely fought affair with Airy Hall getting the better of Monedderlust U21 by a 1-0 margin to advance to the semifinals.
The second game saw Buxton Stars produce a good display to beat Golden Grove by a 4–1 margin to book their place in the semifinals.
Earlier, some administrative mix up was responsible for providing the wrong information to the media. It was reported that Pele and Victoria Kings won their encounters against Airy Hall and Monedderlust, however it was the other way around.
The semi-finals are slated for January 9, 2026, and will see Paradise taking on Trafalgar, while Buxton Stars will face Airy Hall at the same venue.
The final is set for January 10th also at the same venue. (Samuel Whyte)
