(Kaieteur News) – The Vigilant Political Action Committee (VPAC) is set to introduce a housing assistance programme, aimed at helping Guyanese families better understand and navigate the housing application process in the new year.
The small party expressed concern over the challenges faced by citizens in accessing housing, pointing out that despite billions of dollars being allocated towards housing initiatives, many families are still left unsure of how to benefit from these resources.
In a statement issued on Sunday, VPAC said, “For years, billions have been allocated toward housing, yet too many families are still left wondering how, or if they will ever benefit. To address this gap, VPAC will step in to guide citizens through the process, ensuring that eligible families can complete applications correctly, access support fairly, and move forward with dignity and security.”
The party acknowledged the difficulties people face when trying to apply for housing, often being told that their requests cannot proceed due to incomplete forms or missing requirements. “If that is the case, then people deserve clear, practical help to get it right. No family should lose a genuine opportunity for housing simply because the system is difficult to understand or poorly explained,” VPAC stated.
To tackle these challenges, the programme will provide step-by-step guidance to applicants. VPAC explained, “Through this programme, VPAC will walk applicants through the process. We will help families understand how the system works, determine whether they may qualify, assist with gathering required documents, and ensure that applications are properly prepared. We will also explain mortgage pre-approval, what it means, why it matters, and what is required, so applications can be assessed fairly and on their merits.”
The programme is designed to ensure that access to housing assistance is not dependent on personal connections or familiarity with the system. “When people qualify and their applications and mortgage documents are properly prepared, they deserve a fair opportunity to move forward,” VPAC added. “This programme is about fairness, dignity, and responsibility, giving families the tools, they need to help themselves while strengthening trust in the process.”
VPAC concluded by stressing that accessing housing support should be straightforward and humane, stating, “No one should have to suffer quietly just to access what they already qualify for.”
