…Carmelo Man-Son-Hing named MVP

GABA president, Jermaine Slater, presenting the U23 knockout tournament trophy to Colts’ captain, Domitre Rankin and his teammates.
Kaieteur Sports – Colts Basketball Club delivered a commanding performance to win the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) U23 Knockout title, overwhelming Eagles 106–55 in Sunday’s final at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Carmelo Man-Son-Hing, who was later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Players, led all scorers with 26 points in a polished display that capped a successful year for head coach Willon Cameron and allowed GABA to close out the 2025 season on a high note.
Colts asserted their authority from jump ball, setting the tone with suffocating defence and crisp ball movement, orchestrated by Man-Son-Hing at the point.
Their intensity paid immediate dividends, as they surged to a commanding 35–11 lead by the end of the first quarter, leaving the Eagles struggling to cope with the Colts’ pace and backcourt execution.
Man-Son-Hing was ably supported by Domitre Rankin, who finished with 19 points and proved a constant problem for the Eagles’ defence.
The second quarter followed a similar script, with Colts continuing to apply pressure on both ends of the floor. Their transition offense was sharp, while disciplined half-court defence limited the Eagles’ scoring opportunities and forced rushed decisions.
By halftime, the Colts had extended their advantage to 44–24, firmly placing the contest under their control and showcasing their depth and cohesion.
Alfin Joseph, who scored a team-high 19 points for the Eagles, attempted to keep his side within striking distance, but Colts’ balanced attack proved overwhelming. Kimol Grimmond (16 points), Jaden Simon (16) and Shaquan Archer (19) all stepped up, making it difficult for the Eagles to focus their defensive efforts on any single threat.
Any hopes of an Eagles comeback were effectively extinguished in the third quarter, as the Colts emerged from the break with renewed intensity. They outscored their opponents 27–20 in the period to stretch the lead to 84–44, putting the outcome beyond doubt.
The final quarter was a one-sided affair, with the Colts closing out the contest emphatically, adding 22 points while holding the Eagles to just 11.
The final buzzer confirmed a comprehensive 106–55 victory and underlined the Colts’ dominance throughout the knockout campaign.
Meanwhile, in the third-place playoff, Nets defeated Pacesetters 92–77, with Chris Perez leading the way with 24 points. Peter Langevine added 18, while Joel Lokhan contributed 16.
The U23 Knockout Finals once again highlighted the depth of emerging talent within local basketball, as GABA continues to provide a competitive platform for the development of Guyana’s young players. (Rawle Toney)
