Kaieteur Sports – President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Bissoondyal Singh lauded the immense support shown by parents both locally and from Barbados, while calling for similar tournaments to be a mainstay part of youth development across the Caribbean; following the end of a brilliant bilateral U-13 40-Over 5 match series.
President of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Calvin Hope, fellow executives of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).

GCB president Bissoondyal Singh said parents support is a key part of development amongst young cricketers.
Singh highlighted that the series was built on “Friendship, Respect, and the true Spirit of our great game”, before lauding all parties involved in making the endeavor highly successful for both nations.
“First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the players who took part. You have demonstrated tremendous skill, courage, discipline, and teamwork over the past several days”.
While the tournament helped to unearth and promote the future of Guyana, Barbados and by extension, Cricket West Indies; Singh believed that due to efforts from parents such as those who travelled from Barbados to Guyana to help make the series more exciting; future support could also trigger similar bilateral interactions among other Caribbean territories.
“We warmly welcome the (Barbados) parents to Guyana and hope that you have had a wonderful and enjoyable time with us. Your presence, encouragement, and support mean a great deal to these young cricketers”.
Singh further touched on the importance of parents being involved with their children at a young age and how such support could play a role in making similar inter-regional tournaments a huge part of youth development going forward.
“This message, however, is not only for Guyanese parents, but for every parent across the Caribbean. If we are to truly fix and strengthen West Indies cricket, the cricket boards cannot do it alone; parents are indispensable partners in this journey”.
He continued, “To the parents and families, we recognize the sacrifices you make, early mornings, long drives and unwavering support; Thank you. Your encouragement fuels the dreams of these young cricketers”.
Although the Guyanese team made a mess of the series, having lost 3-2 after gaining a huge 2-0 lead, quite a number of positives were extracted from not only the local camp, but from the young Bajans.
“To our teams from Barbados, welcome to Guyana, Thank you for your participation, your competitive spirit and the sportsmanship you’ve shown both on and off the field. On behalf of the GCB, I extend sincere thanks to the BCA for their willingness to respond and collaborate in this very important cricket development exchange programme”, Singh declared.
Following the end of the series, BCA boss Hope outlined more future endeavors between the two nations, even hinting at a possible return series this time on Bajan soil.
As such, the GCB presented Hope with a token of appreciation at the Ceremony on Friday, followed by Singh saying a few words of appreciation and gratitude.
“We also extend our sincere thanks to President Calvin Hope and the Barbados Cricket Association for his support, collaboration, and commitment to this important youth cricket initiative. This partnership
Reflects the strength of regional cooperation and our shared commitment to nurturing young talent”. He added.
In closing, the GCB president spoke on the importance of such a tournament between different countries, the future as it relates to becoming ambassadors for one’s country and the West Indies; closing off by urging the youngsters to continue playing hard and with confidence.
“This tournament and others like it, stands at the very heart of the West Indies cricket development pathway where young talent is identified, nurtured and guided toward representing our region with pride. It is through these early opportunities that future Guyana and West Indies cricketers begin to understand what it truly means to wear the maroon with honour”, He ended. (Clifton Ross)
