2025 Barbados Tour of Guyana Under-17 40-Over Series…
Kaieteur Sports – A brave fightback from Barbados helped them level the series 2-2 following a comprehensive 7-wicket win yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club Ground.
The Bajans clawed their way back into the series after losing the two opening games, before finding their groove in game 3, now forcing the home team into Friday’s final with the series on the line.
After keeping Guyana to 119-8, Barbados wasted no time in getting to their revised target as they wrapped up game 4 in the 23rd over, ending on 106-3 after their allotment was reduced to 26 overs.
Opener Jon-David Green dropped anchor immediately with a boundary-less 27 not out from 62 balls, arguably the most important knock for his side.
Alongside Ky-mani Inniss (17) and Natarie Lavine, who scored 31 off 40 with 4 fours, the trio helped Barbados reach 80-3 in the 17th over.
Guyana made a few inroads but Green continued to march on with his new partner in Zdari Scantlebury who supported with an important innings of 16 not out (1×4), which oversaw the Bajans’ run-trimming process successfully to the end.
Only Jaden Ganpat (1-17) and Afraz Khan (1-17) managed to get breakthroughs for Guyana, who earlier scratched their way to a mediocre total with help from some 33 extras.
The home team was led by a half-century stand from the pair of Khan (28) and Captain Sahid Gajnabi (28), who held things together following the early dismissals of openers Deshawn Ramnauth (1) and Daniel Johnson (2).
The skipper hit just two fours while Khan found the ropes on three occasions, as their time at the crease yielded the most boundaries of the innings.
Inniss soon found his groove after bagging one of the openers earlier in the innings, adding the big wickets of Khan and Afraz Ali to his collection as the medium-pacer went for figures of 3-14 off 6 overs.
Gajnabi fell to a return catch off the bowling of all-rounder Lavine (1-10) which turned the innings around for Barbados prior to rain interrupting the flow of things in the 30th over, leaving Guyana stuck on 92-6.
Lower-order Adrian Emmanuel then ended the game on 13 which helped Guyana cross the 120-run mark. Spinner Anahri Hinds claimed 2-28 which completed another classy bowling outing from the Bajans.
The final match is set for Friday at Everest. (Clifton Ross)
