(Kaieteur News) – Police have arrested a 43-year-old male vendor of Sophia, Greater Georgetown for being in possession of 196.55 grams of cannabis that was discovered in his haversack at Barakat Backdam, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.
According to police, enquiries revealed that ranks were conducting mobile patrols in the area when they observed a man riding a motorcycle and behaving in a “suspicious manner”.
As a result, the ranks intercepted the rider and conducted a search of both his person and belongings.
“Searches were conducted on the rider and his belongings, during which ranks examined a haversack carried by the rider, where one bulky transparent parcel containing two additional transparent parcels with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found,” police said.
The motorcyclist was arrested and taken to the Itaballi Police Checkpoint. The narcotics was weighed and lodged as evidence. The man was subsequently taken to the Bartica Police Station where he remains in custody.
