Kaieteur Sports – Seven matches will set the pace for the start tonight (Sunday) of the 4th annual Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) run year/end futsal tournament, which is heavily sponsored by beverage giants Banks DIH, with the action kicking off at 6:00 pm, after the march past of the 15 contesting teams at 5:00 pm at the Community Hard Court in Linden.
According to the organisers, this year’s competition has a total $3M sponsorship which caters for the top prize of $1M going to the champions, as the runners up pocket $500,000, third place – $200,000 and fourth – $100,000, along with trophies, replicas, medals and individual awards at stake.
There are four groups with the top two teams qualifying after a round robin format to the quarterfinals, with the semifinals set for December 29 and the final on New Year’s Night.
After the march past where UDFA President Wainwright Bethune will be the main speaker, the tournament gets kicking at 6:00 pm, when in Group C, Blueberry Hill collide with Fearless, then in Group C, FC YMCA face Eagles FC at 6:45 pm, in Group C Winners Connection battle NetRockers at 7;30 pm, in Group A Hi Stars take on Amelia’s Ward Panthers at 8:30 pm, in Group D Botafago face Milerock at 9:00 pm, then in Group A the champions Silver Shattas meet Topp XX at 9:45 pm and the final game of the night is from Group B where Coomacka tackle Capital FC at 10:30 pm.
The fifteen teams playing in the preliminary round robin format are: Group A – Silver Shattas, Topp XX, Hi Stars and Topp XX, Group B – Fearless, Capital FC, Blueberry Hill and Coomacka, Group C has FC YMCA, Winners Connection, Net Rockers and Eagles United, with Group D comprising Rockstone, Botafago and Milerock.
