(Kaieteur News) – Two persons were on Tuesday afternoon killed in an accident at Moblissa, Soesdyke-Linden Highway after a speeding car crashed into the back of a stationary truck that was on the side of the highway.
The impact killed both the driver of the car and a mechanic who was near the truck at the time of the accident.
The mechanic has been identified as 49-year-old Brian Manorharlall of Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD) while the driver of the car was identified as 32-year-old Asham Sultan of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement said that the accident occurred at about 15:15hrs at Moblissa, Soesdyke – Linden Highway involving a truck bearing registration number GAG 3120, “which was at the time parked on the eastern side of the roadway due to mechanical issues” and a car bearing registration number PRR 5367 which was driven by Sultan.
“Initial investigations disclosed that the motor car was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane allegedly at a fast rate when the driver lost control, and collided with the lorry driver (Manoharlall), who was standing at the rear of the lorry and subsequently crashed into the rear of the said lorry. Both drivers received injuries about their bodies and were pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor on duty from the Linden Hospital Complex,” police said.
Their bodies were taken to the Linden Hospital Mortuary where they await post-mortem examinations.
