(Kaieteur News) – Canadian-owned G Mining Ventures (GMIN) has officially secured a 20-year mining licence from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) for its 100%-owned Oko West Gold Project in Region Seven-an operation estimated to contain a staggering 5.4 million ounces of gold.
According to the company, the licence, effective December 5, 2025, authorises full development, operation and commercial production at the site. GMIN said the approval represents the “final major permitting milestone,” clearing the way for full construction and long-term operations. The License come on the heels of the company receiving the Final Environmental Permit on September 2, 2025 and the Corporation’s formal construction decision on October 23, 2025.
Under the Interim Environmental Permit which was granted earlier this year and early works begun, they will continue under the Final Environmental Permit, therefore allowing these activities to carry directly into full construction. With all major permits and approvals secured, GMIN is advancing Oko West development and construction in a disciplined manner aligned with the Corporation’s project timeline.
Louis-Pierre Gignac, President & Chief Executive Officer said that, “Securing the Mining License reflects not only the technical robustness of Oko West but also the collaborative relationships we have established with Guyanese authorities, communities, and partners,” … “Our commitment to responsible development is unwavering, and this milestone positions us to build Oko West into a world-class mining operation that delivers lasting economic and social benefits to Guyana.”
Securing the licence, means that the project is now set to commence pre-production open pit mining in the first three months of next year, with the assembly of the initial mining equipment fleet already underway, this milestone will further advance the Project as construction efforts progress steadily into the coming year.
On October 24, this publication reported that the company had announced that its Board of Directors approved the start of full construction of its 100 percent-owned Oko West Gold Project in Guyana.
This announcement was made following the completion of the permitting and financing milestones. The project carries an initial capital cost of US$973 million. As of September 30, 2025, detailed engineering was 36 per cent complete. The Oko West gold project is targeting an average annual production of 350,000 ounces of gold over a 12.3-year mine life. The mine is estimated to hold 5.4 million ounces of gold.
